I looked over the product sheet of the penacolite resorcinol glue again and it states that the shelf life of resorcinol is 2 years when stored at 70 degrees F. I've kept mine in pretty benign environments but the temperature has gone up and down quite a bit more, probably between 58-80 degrees F. I don't know how much that would affect the shelf life of the glue but I'm glad I ran the test. I decided to run another test block just to confirm the results. I was very careful with the mixing ratios, the containers and the glue temperature, so if this one fails, I know the glue is bad. If this one passes, I'll know I did something wrong last time, perhaps not calculating the mixture ratio correctly. We will see.

I also glued the joined cover on to the main fin spar. I wanted to be able to precisely locate the spar on the cover while gluing to make sure I could do it when I close the forward fin spar that is already varnished inside. Since I'm using the weight method for clamping the cover to the spar while the glue dries, the glue tends to make the spar slip around a little. To keep it where I wanted it, I used some nails through the extra plywood along the outside of the spar in some key places. That held the spar in its location as the weight was applied. Worked like a charm.

The failure of the penacolite test block really freaked me out so I figured I had better run a test on the Aerolite as well. I glued up the test block with the same batch that I used with the main fin spar cover.
