Today I tackled the problem that I had because the long 12 ft redwood rails bent a little after I brought it home from the store. It still escapes me what I'm supposed to do to avoid this problem short of paying out the nose for really expensive lumber. I used a very flat surface to build the table top frame on, but there were two places where the long rails were not flat with the rest of the frame. One rail sagged a little in the middle and the other rail looked like this at the end:

To fix this problem, I just made these little wedges to make the frame top flush all the way around. To check the flatness all the way down the length, I used some string theory. Both ends were a fixed length below the table top and then I just measured at different points all along the length. Fits good...
