I've been working little by little setting up this jig for the rudder spar this week when I've had time. One thing I thought about was the two long peices that are laminated together at the bottom of the part (near side of the picture). I thought I'd drill some holes in the jig board along that glue line so the glue has somewhere to go and doesn't lift the part. The problem was that my drilled holes left an uneven surface, even after my attempts to flatten it, and when I glued the part it was raised up by a tiny amount on that side. I"m writing this a few days later now and the part has straightened out pretty much on it's own, and when I add the plywood web to the spar it will be glued straight. In hindsight, the glue line probably wasn't long enough to cause any problem but with longer laminations it could be. Most likely for those longer laminations, I'll just raise the whole thing off the jig board with some spacer blocks along the length so the glue can escape on the bottom as well.
