I finished up skinning the rudder near the end of the year. Here are some images:

First up was bending the leading edge skin, varnishing the insides and gluing it on.

Then the tip.

Two layers of 9 oz fiberglass over the areas that get cut out.

Cutouts for the hinges and scarfed along the spar for the trailing edge skins.

Trailing edge skins go on.

Next, the bottom of the rudder was sanded to contour, then I used a pattern to transfer to the plywood skin. After I cut out the skin, I steamed it around the bottom. I was pleased to get the tight bend in the 1.2 mm skin without cracks.

Insides varnished and matching scarfs ready for gluing.

And finally, the lower skin is glued on and sanded to shape. The final image shows the rudder complete with the tail light cutout. I took the picture with it mounted horizontally on the table but flipped the image to see the rudder in it's vertical orientation.

I plan to build the aft wing spar next to have it ready to support aileron/flap build later on. After the spar, I'll start the fin. Happy New Year, everyone!
